Zbigniew Palka

Zbigniew Palka

(b. 8 May 1951, Poznań)

Palka studied mathematics at Adam Mickiewicz University from 1969 and 1974 and continued to work there, gaining his doctorate in 1980 (under the supervision of Jerzy Albrycht) and his habilitation degree in 1989. He was dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science from 1999 to 2005, having served as vice-dean between 1993 and 1999. His research interests include discrete mathematics and the theory of algorithms. He has published around 70 papers and one monographic work, and acted as supervisor to five successful doctoral candidates. He has received three ministerial prizes (in 1981, 1988 and 1990). From 2003 to 2005 he served as chairman of the Polish Mathematical Society.
